More real life, for real now.

I definitely love living in Calgary. There are so many great things about this city. There are the obvious reasons, and then, obviously, the not so obvious reasons.

I have no interest in listing a top ten reasons I like Calgary or anything like that, but one of my absolute favorite things about living here is that there is always somewhere new to go. Every person that I meet has a different favorite place for food, drinks, or whatever it may be. So now it’s my turn to tell you all where I like to go!!

I am also a big believer in the idea that it doesn’t matter where you are, but who you are with. I have had some wonderful experiences at these places and I am trying to leave the context of the situation out of it for the purpose of this, but that is kind of impossible.
If money was forever flowing and I could have the best day ever I would go to all of these places. I also think it’s important that I mention the fact that I don’t consider myself a “foodie”. Honestly, I don’t know what that means.

I was so close to giving up on Monki. So so so close, but MAN am I ever glad I did not give up. Usually when I go out for breakfast I go on an empty stomach, because breakfast is usually a big meal around here. So the first two times I tried going to Monki, the wait was way too long and I was impatient and hungry. Then finally the third time, I was mentally prepared to wait. The person at the door took our name and number and offered to call when our table was ready, but we wanted to wait there. It was about 25 minutes for a table for two. Maybe I am being judgmental but the wait staff could have been more polite. They didn’t offer to show us a menu while we waited or offer us coffee. My friend who I was with is a red seal chef (no big deal) and she said they had a great looking menu. I had the wild mushroom, roasted red pepper, baby spinach & feta frittata. It was amazing. Our meals both came with some of the best hash browns I have ever had, and a little bowl of fresh fruit. It was a great breakfast, I must go back there to try the eggs benny.

Okay so I have had good and bad experiences here. Some of the employees seem rather pretentious. Once while I was in line, the bouncer yelled to everyone in line that you had to be 25+ in order to get in. I didn’t care much for that, since I was not quite that age. Then some people in front of us said that there was a group of young guys wearing baseball hats that the bouncer didn’t want to let in, which is why he said that. But whatever I don’t really know what it takes to run a bar. I still like going there. Once I went and had to start a tab since I was getting food on a Friday night. Ended up staying there for a while and using the tab for food and drink! Anyways at the end of the night some strange guy was hitting on the bartender while I was trying to get her attention to pay, so I gave the guy a dirty look. After that the bartender gave me back my ID and card and told me he took care of it. Like whaaaaat I didn’t realize things like that happen in real life. Yes, I like National on 10th.

I didn’t realize how much I would write about each place…

I am 90% sure that Village Ice Cream would constitute as a hidden gem of this city. It’s kind of confusing to find as it’s on a strange street that has construction. Basically, I know I am getting close when I have to think “is this the right street?” but yes that’s the right street. They hand craft all of their ice cream which I find so interesting. It really changes the way it tastes, in my humble opinion. They have their regular flavors, and then 3 or 4 seasonal flavors. I always try the seasonal flavors because I like to try new things. Flavors I have tried are earl gray, pear and red wine sorbet, and banana spice. All have been absolutely delicious. I want to go there every single day. I want to live there. Village Ice Cream, you are wonderful.

I defintely eneded up writing more about those places then I expected to. Here are some other places in Calgary that I recommend, but don’t quite have as much to say about: Ox and Angela, Menchies, Boxwood CafĂ©, Kawa Espresso Bar, and well I am basically an 18 year old girl so Ranchmans (obviously) and Hudsons Downtown.

K tell me more places to go in town because I want to try them all!!!

This is definitely for real.

Alright so since my first post on Wednesday, I have stuck to my word and only swiped right on Tinder.

For those of you who live under a rock perhaps and don't know what Tinder is, let me explain. Tinder is an app, in which you can see who around you have the same app (within 150 km). You can see pictures that the user chooses, a tagline, their age, and mutual friends and interest from Facebook.

For each person you see on the app you can either swipe right, for a "yes" or left for "no". If both people swipe right you have the ability to start a conversation. If one person swipes no then no conversation can happen! That's it, rocket science I know right? Like why cant we all meet people the old fashion way?

So for the last two days I have only swiped right, and let me tell you it has been quite the confidence boost.

Here are the different kinds of guys I have seen on Tinder:

1. The guy who thinks he is being super creative in saying hello.

I get it. You think you are a cowboy. Because you live in Calgary

2. The guy who gets right to the point.

Please don't judge me for not responding to that last one. There are some things I would rather be watching.

3. The guy starting with an "original" compliment.

The weird thing is this is the face I'm making in all of my pictures...

4. The guy who's Tinder cherry you popped.

Aw... Everyone deserves a match.

5. The guy who you have the typical "tinder" conversation with.

If you join be prepared for a whole lot of conversations like this.

6. The guy who just doesn't get it, and doesn't give up or makes spelling mistakes.

7. The guy who doesn't know what else to ask.

I swear, next time I am going to say "for my blog".

7. The guy who is just weird.

Um whaaaat.....

8. And my favorite guy of them all....

You win my Tinder, Wild. You win!

Am I too judgmental? Maybe this is why I am single

Oh well that's a blog entry for a whole nother day!

Let me start this by saying that I have never been much of a writer. I never kept a journal, or diary growing up. That has been the main reason I have not blogged up to this point. I was worried about grammatical errors or spelling mistakes that would embarrass me. But I am not letting this stop me any further!

I am now deciding to start this blog because I knew I would want to write about my opinion on the season of American Idol and The Bachelor. Even if no one ends up reading this, it will feel good to get it all off my chest!

I also need somewhere to publicly post the ridiculous messages that guys send through online dating sites. I was on Plenty of Fish for two months last year and got some of the strangest messages. Nothing against the website, people are free to do and say whatever they want. With that being said I am considering starting a new account just to post the messages on here.

I've also been on tinder for a few months now and am not getting that many ridiculous messages, mainly because through swiping you can control who your able to converse with, and I am super particular with my swiping! HOWEVER, for the soul purpose of this blog I am now stating that I will only swipe right! I am going to give myself 2 exceptions: guys I have dated and it didn't end well, guys who I know are lying about their age since I know them/their families from around town. Capeesh?

That's all I've got for now. I'm watching Party of Five on Netflix and have to get back to it.
